Stuff that Mr Tan talked about during the last CCA session: 1. 1-day trip to Msia over a long weekend - Right before CA - Going in by public transport & train - <$50 for the entire trip 2. Another Msia trip - 3D4N trip - Tentatively date: 1st April to 4th April 2010 - Either – Caving & rafting OR trekking & rafting - Cost around $150 3. Activity at Shuqun Primary School - They have an abseiling wall! - They have ODAC too - Activity will be on a CCA day - In return, we may need to go to their school to facilitate Shuqun’s camp somewhere in the middle of the year 4. Trekking with Yr 2 basketball members - Lead them on a trek at the trail from Clementi (the extremely muddy trail we’ve been to) - Recce will be on Week 3 CCA day, actual event on Week 5 - Land comm in-charge
5. YOG CIP - Opened up to Yr 5s instead due to Yr 6’s busy schedule - If your CA score is good, you can approach the teachers and request to be part of the YOG event - MUST be able to commit throughout, especially during the YOG event itself which is very near our exams Reflections on Panti Trip (14-15th Nov '09)
Hello!I'm sure most of us had fun during the M'sia trip haha. Lots of unexpected things happened, like getting sucked by leeches, stung by wasps, stepping on human poo, getting stuck in a thuderstorm during canoeing etc etc. It was a great experience for everyone. Woots. I realised I kinda make the trip sound quite scary lol. But it was quite enjoyable actually la. The view at the peak was pretty nice and the temperature was really great too. Yep so in future if we have any more such trips, I think everyone should go and experience for themselves (: We have learnt quite alot from this camp. Here are some learning points we have consolidated during the debrief this morning: 1. Groundsheets are the most important and versatile items to bring along any hike - Can use as emergency poncho - Can lay it between the ground and the tent to prevent water from sipping through, especially when there are puddles of water on the ground - If it is not raining, we can lay it on the floor for us to sit around or cook meals - One tent must have at least one groundsheet 2. Wear long socks - (impt!!!) Good protection against leeches - Protection against undergrowth, prevents scratches by thorns - Wearing 2 layers of socks can prevent blisters - Bring extra socks as wet socks are really very uncomfortable 3. Bring your own insect repellent - Instead of asking the teachers for insect repellent to get rid of leeches - Pack insect repellent (and other necessary stuff) in accessible compartments of your bag. Necessary stuff include: Poncho, jacket, first aid kit, hat, etc. - Can bring saturated salt solution or medicated oil instead to get rid of leeches 4. Bring windbreaker/jacket/long sleeve shirts - To protect yourself from the cold, especially if it rains or when we're at high altitudes 5. Must know how to pitch the flysheet - The flysheets come in different shapes and sizes - Some flysheets require an extra pole, hence if you don't have the pole, water will still get into the tent if it's raining - Need to learn how to make do with your flysheet even if they are not of the correct shape/size or if you don't have the extra pole 6. Make use of the lifeskill courses that we had - E.g. tying of knots, everybody must know how to tie instead of relying on a few people who know 7. Waterproof everything - Especially when it is rainy almost everyday - Can put everything in ziploc bags, followed by putting all the ziploc bags in another (the thicker type, white in colour that you can buy from beach road) garbage bags and then stuff the entire garbage bag in your bagpack 8. Bring extra stuff - Its better to bring more than bring too little - Not enough socks & underwear as they all got wet - Not enough food - Read itinerary so as to better plan what to bring 9. Choose the right shoes to wear - Some soles came off - Up to your own comfort level - Make sure have shoes with good grip as the ground is very slippery especially after it rains 10. Bags are too small - For a 2-days trip, our bags are okay - But if we are going for a longer trip, we'll need bigger bags - Many people had things tied to their bags because there is no space to put those things inside of their bags - No need to buy bigger bags, can just borrow from other people 11. Caps/hats - Protect eyes against thorny vegetation during hikes - Protect eyes against the rain (like in the case when it rained during our canoeing trip, people without caps/hats couldn't open their eyes to see the path ahead) 12. For added comfort... - Can bring along foam sheet, especially if the campsite is full of rocks 13. Nylon cords - Another important & necessary thing to bring along You guys can take a look at the pictures in the photoalbum, when Mr Oh uploads them :D NTU ODAC Adventure Jamboree 2009

However, we will not be travelling to Africa to help out in this CIP so no worries =)) As we've heard from Mr William Wee that there will be a competitor (his friend maybe) from Singapore who will be joining the race, our job in the above CIP will be to aid him/her in publicity activities i.e. publicize the 4deserts series. NOTE: Our job scope will only comprise of off-course work and we will basically be behind the scenes volunteers. In general, we will be in a way preparing the competitor for the upcoming sahara race in October. Currently, the full job scope is still not released. The above mentioned CIP is likely to last till October, hence anyone who is interested please do inform me or your fellow comm heads asap. Thanks ppl. Hi, here are the details on the Bike Hike called Project Speedway: Bike Hike is an approximately 100km overnight cycling event around Singapore. The theme for this year's Bike Hike is "Project Speedway - Velocity Redesigned" and what makes this year's Bike Hike more unique is the support of Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee's (SYOGOC) for our event through their initiative, Create Action Now (CAN!). Next year we should take note! http://www.shape.com.sg/shaperun09/ Zoey :) hey people. Sheila here. Just in case you didnt receive the sms i sent, i shall post the details here. Or else i will take it that you cannot go and you will miss out on the dragon boating course. ONLY valid MCs accepted, parents' letter cannot. If you got any questions, can come and ask me.
Project Vibrant Colours 2 - Photo Acknowledgement
Hi all,as instructed by the interact club, each CCA needs to submit at least 15 photos to acknowledge people who had impacted their lives. lol. so each of you please dig out at least one photo with a written message acknowledging the person/people in the pic for what he/she/they did. eg. Miss Lee is always there for us whether we're cycling, climbing staircases, or having physical trainings. It is her presence that makes me endure through tough trips and torturous exercises without a single word of complaint, knowing that she is silently giving us moral support in the aircon room nearby. Indeed, she has impacted my life greatly. something like that. do not copy. top 3 classes/CCA with most number of submissions stand a chance to win a prize. send me (iris) the photos + messages latest by 19/04/09 (Sunday) night! Water Activities
Some of the water activites/competitions available are posted below. The registrations are not out yet but its just to inform you guys about the events.
